£0.00

Published annually from 1941- 1975, ‘The Saturday Book’, was a miscellany of writing, prose, poetry and commentary on British cultural life in wartime and in the post-war period.

Many well known (& lesser known) writers contributed essays, articles & commentary and several prominent artists, illustrators & photographers contributed art work, much of it specially commissioned.

This combination of words & and pictures makes ‘The Saturday Book’ an important example of mid- late twentieth century book design, and an important record of British cultural life from the 1940s- 1970s.

Many ‘Saturday Books’ in this selection, come in their original slip-case's, and are in excellent condition.

Volume 4 (1944), contains reference to an essay by George Orwell entitled: ‘Benefit Of Clergy’. The essay, was in fact not published as it was considered ‘obscene’ by the book's publisher, but is still listed in the table of contents.
