Published between 1908- 1940, ‘The Magnet’ was a popular weekly boys paper, containing stories, competitions and general entertainment features. Its principal writer was Charles Hamilton (pen name, Frank Richards) who wrote lots of stories set in the fictional public school Greyfriars, where his most famous character was Billy Bunter- the ‘larger-than-life’ protagonist of the ‘Billy Bunter ‘ books, was a pupil.
