Books Belonging To Prominent Persons!
Antiquarian & Vintage books, often contain evidence of ‘prior ownership’ (much of it hand- written). This can include: names, signatures, inscriptions, marginalia, notes, scribbles, doodles & other ‘random’ prior- owner signs, which give these books a unique history, provenance and story of their own. They also provide a fascinating glimpse into the reading habits of people who may have achieved ‘fame’ or influence in their lives, or belonged to well- connected families.
I have a few interesting examples in the shop, including: books owned by: the cricketer, J.M Mordaunt (Warwicks & England), Sir Philip Francis (purported to be the author of ‘Junius’ Letters), Captain ‘Tiger’ Sarll & Mrs Batty (aka Christina Foyle of Foyles Books)…
Prices vary.
